  1. 1) Ponds and lakes are affected because pollution can cause harmful nitrates to harm the wildlife in the ecosystem.  Plus the water in the lakes and ponds may enter the undergound water supply and contaminate the drinking water.

    2) New sources of energy must be found because the amount of coal and fossil fuels is decreasing. We will not have enough gasoline or coal to power all of our cars and industries in the future.  Plus, the energy that we are using now are not renewable.  If we were to use renewable energy such as wind and water power it would not only be helpful for the environtment (decrease the pollution by a lot) but for the Earth itself.  Wind power would never run out and neither would water.

If fossil fuels and coal coninues being used, we will cause the greenhouse effect to be worsened, and create more problems for the ozone layer.  This will lead to many health problems and environmental problems.

  2. Ponds and Lakes contain stagnant waters. If waste waters generated by the near-by industries-containing heavy metals or organic acids flow into the pond or the lake it will be polluted.

Our conventional sources like coal or oil are not likely to last long.Hence we need alternative sources .Without energy all our activities will come to a standstill.
