Bonjour! Je m'appelle Emily. (:

Anyways, I'm in french 2x now, I'm taking all normal classes, and this is my only advanced class. Lately, I've been having trouble with it. I've only been in it two days. xD But I always seem to stumble over my words, I can never remember anything I learned the previous year? Advice would be great on just how I can get more fleunt in it. I don't want people sayingI should switch down. I'm going to stay with 2x, because french is something I want to pursue as a career. Thanks!

  1. Bonjour! Je m'appelle Emily aussi. (:

In order ot get more fluent, you need to practise! Use CDs (sometimes teachers have some for you to use), look at your local library for books and CDs as well, speak it as much as possible, and if at all possible go to Quebec or France for a semester.

That's how I learned to speak more fluently.

You just have to practise speaking it. You can't just read it.

Good luck! When you start to show initative, you will go far!

  2. You just said that you've only been in this class for two days, meaning you just came off from summer vacation during which you probably didn't use any French language whatsoever, correct? It happens all the time. The first few days are always the most difficult. Everything you used to know disappeared over vacation and you will make stupid mistakes all the time. I've been there before. So calm down and be sure to re-study your notes from the previous year so you can try to refresh your memory. This will also help get your grammar skills back up to par fairly quickly. Also, be sure to ask your teacher if you have any questions about something you used to know but are having difficulties with it right now. He/she is there to help but he/she can not help if you don't let them know that you're having issues with the class or grammatical concepts from last year.

If you don't happen to have your notes from last year anymore, check out websites like the one listed below to refresh your memory on common mistakes from beginner French as well as other concepts. If you need to refresh your listening comprehension, watch a movie or listen to a CD in French. You could see if your teacher might lend you a CD he/she has. As for movies, why not watch a DVD of your favorite movie provided it has French language track and subtitles? All else fails, find some French clips online, either at youtube or even at a French television channel's website. Reading comprehension, you can always try to read a French newspaper online or other French websites. Or you could see if your teacher would lend you a book or a magazine or a bande désinée. Oh and for speaking, if you're in high school, you could see if the teacher is willing to start a French club or a French table where students can go to speak French (this all depends on how many students are interested in this or whether the teacher has time to host it.) Otherwise, you might see if there's a local group of French speakers who you could speak with.

Other than that, I have no suggestions besides trying to study abroad in a francophone country. I myself studied in France for a full school year in college and it aided my knowledge of the language immensely.

    Hope this helps somewhat!

Keep up the good work. I know you can accomplish your goal of having a career dealing with French. Feel free to send me a message via Yahoo Answers if you need any help.

Oh, and so you know how to do the accents you need for if you have to type a paper in French, check the last link below which gives Alt codes, where you hold Alt down and type in specific numbers using the number keypad on the right side of your keyboard. You'll need mainly the numbers in the 130s, 140s, and 150s but the rest are interesting to know too.

  3. Means what do you want?

Actually, the way you wrote it means Sil pleases you.

  4. go onto youtube there is bounds to be thousands of french teachers... if you can afford it get some french cds...

don't drop down, just try harder xxxx

  5. I'm having trouble understanding.  You shouldn't be taking advanced classes if you can't handle it.  Are you having difficulty with your French 2 class because you skipped French 1?  Or is French 2x more than just French 2?

The only reason I could think of that you would want to stay in a French class that is too difficult for you is that you are a senior and want to take the second French class before you graduate.  If you aren't a senior, you should take a lower placement French class now, and take French 2x in the next year (Or even the next semester)

(Sorry if I sound mean or something, but I've never heard of French 2x, so I am really just confused.)
