Help with French words??

Question

When to use Gros/grosse/grand/grand and other words that mean big like that. im aint talking about enorme or gigantesque, but words that

have similar meaning.

whats the differnce between grand and gros.

petit and court. haut and grand

what are their difference. are each pair synonoms and interchngeable.

also, i was reading something.

if something is hot-you use etre

if its a human only than avoir

if its the weather than always use faire

so if the house was cold would you use cette maison fais froid or cette maison est froid. a dog too.

As adjectives:

grand(e) - tall , it also can mean great when placed before the noun. (this adj can go before or after)

Gros- fat, big, large

court- short

petit(e) - small/little

haut- high/tall

Weather - il fait chaud (warm), Il fait tres chaud (hot)

Object is hot- il est chaud

Person- J'ai chaud

I believe you would still say fait foid when talking about the climate inside the house. If the dog is hot you use avoir.. animals are treated like people when talking about them.

gros/grosse means fat, grand/grande just means tall

court is usually used to describe short HAIR like j'ai les cheveux courts

If it's cold u say il fait froid

w/ weather alwayz use fait unless it's precipitation like snow or rain then say il niege/il pleut

la maison était froide (remember that froid takes an 'e' ending because 'la' maison is feminine)

le métal est froid (le =masculin without the 'e' ending at froid)
