Help with GE 21905 model phone!?

Question

i have a Ge 21905 model phone and it came with three handsets... i have telus and i have a answering maching built into the phone. It doesnt work... I have a message thing that came with the telus... like when someone didnt answer it would go to voice ail... so why doesnt my answering maching on my phone work?
