Help with GE DECT 6.0 cordless phone!?

I'm having two major problems with my cordless phone. First of all, whenever I pick up the phone to dial or answer a call there's always a static in the background. NO idea how to fix this HELP!

Second, my phone keeps saying I have a new voicemail however, I don't have an answering machine with my phone and it keeps flashing. How do I make it delete and stop flashing?

Hi Emily K:I have no idea what type of phone service you have. Whether it is a land line or over cable, you have Voice Mail in the dialtone serving office. Probably included in a package deal.As for the noise,if you have a Demarc box GOTO it, open cover,unplug the cord or just pull the plug part toward you,plug in a regular phone. Get dialtone, dial a1, to break dialtone, listen.If noisy call service provider. If quiet, some type of interference in your house. Good Luck exbelltel
