Question:

Help with Guinea Pigs?

I noticed this morning that one of my guinea pigs was limping.

I was going to take it to the vet straight away but would it be a better idea to leave it a day or 2 to see if it improves on its own?

Also I've never taken an animal to the vet how much do they charge?

  1. I think you should just wait 2 days, THEN take it to a vet. I'm sorry, I don't know how much they charge, my hamster has never gotten sick. :)

  2. Wrap it in a towel and examine the leg and foot.  If it's just a scrape or a bite from another guinea pig you can probably just put some ointment on it and it will get better on it's own.  If it already looks infected you may still need to take it to the vet.

If you take it to the vet they will want to x-ray the leg at the very least.  I'd say you'd be lucky to get out of ther under $200.  But it is your responsibility as the pet owner to take it in.

  3. Most Vets charge £20 + just to look

  4. i'd wait to see if it gets better on its own, if it doesn't in a few days, though, take it to the vet. dont waist your money if you dont have to.

  5. the leg first. if it is swollen and looks very bad then i would take it to the vet

but if it is not that bad, in which case it is not bleeding rapidly etc then i would leave it and see if it get s better. it could be a fellow guinea pig that has bitten it but i would see if it gets better in a few days, if not then that is the time you take it to the vet

  6. the vet costs maybe the most 20 or 25 just tolook and if it dosent improve in a day i would take the guinea pig to the vet.

  7. I would wait about a day then if it didn't imporve then take him or her to the vet. It would probaby cost like 30 dollars just to get it looked at but atleast 125 to get an xray and stuff.

  8. I would check the leg if I don't see any scratch or any bites from other piggies I would definitely take the piggy to the vet, because then the problem is internally. The price depends on your region, the vet's knowledge and reputation.

  9. dont wait for too long, it might become worse

    it probably hurt its leg

you should take it to the vet soon

  10. to those people who are saying vets charge £20 just to look.....they don't

most would look at your guinea pig and if there was nothing wrong would charge very little from £0-£10

but its worth it just to know that, there is nothing wrong and to give you piece of mind.

but i would recommend taking it to the vet.... A common problem with guinea pigs is that they can limp or go lame. sometimes the problem is simple and the prevention can seem obvious..but sometimes the problem can be serious and if you love your piggy. you will give them the benefit of the doubt and take them, just to be on the safe side.

hope your piggy gets better soon
