I've been thinking about posting this question for a while. I need help stimulating my body's energy level naturally or herbally. I work long hours 12-16 hour days 5-6 days a week. I work in the oilfield and drive. I'm not interested in prescription drugs. I used to by very physical until about a year ago when I took this job. I'm mid-thirties and in decent shape. I'm not overweight, but I'm not skinny. I'm beginning the stage of uncomfortable. If I could just boost my energy level, maybe I could overcome this rut I'm in. I hold a commercial driver's license, which is why this needs to a more natural solution. I would consider diet, herbal, or exercise solutions. Any help appreciated.

  1. Check out:  http://drjanetangel.mitamins.info/

She has tons of great herbal/homeopathic remedies for energy, metabolism, or whatever else you could need.  If you are unsure which rememdy will help you the best, send her an email, she always responds really fast, and she'll point you in the right direction.  I have a friend that uses her migrane rememdy, and I love her's for depression, and some of the skin and hair ones I use too.

On her other website, she's got lots of articles with medical research on homeopathic remedies too, so you might want to check those out.

  5. If you can visit a naturopath who can help you with a proper regemine for you it would be best. But here are some ideas...

There are a group of herbs/mushrooms that are called adaptogens. They help the body adapt to stress in whatever way it needs. Certain herbs have specific functions they specialize in.

Eleutherococcus increases energy, endurance and stamina

Rhodiola reduces fatigue and improves mental clarity. great for long drives when you need to be sharp.

Ashwagandha: It's considered to be the herb that has 'horse' stamina. It will carry you through long hauls.

Reishi Mushroom: overall well being and stress management

Asian Ginseng: Red ginseng is more stimulating then white ginseng. It can be too much for some people. you may want to start with white and see how it goes.

These are herbs that you will be taking on a daily bases, taking capsules or herbal extracts (tinctures) each day. Choose 1 not all. I would reserve the Rhodiola, in tincture, for the times when you need it to keep you focused.    Know that after some months, maybe 4-8, your body will get used to the herb and it won't be as effective. This is when you will need to switch to another one for another few months.

New Chapter is a good company for the mushrooms.

As far as food goes, you need to eat 3 healthy meals a day with snacks if you can, keeping your blood sugar level steady. Eat fruits and veggies with protein. having coffee and a muffin for breakfast will not set you up for a good energy day. You will end up with blood sugar highs and lows that will give you dips and spikes in energy. Protein is important in the AM for a good start to the day.

Taking a b-complex will also be helpful

You definitely need to get a full  8 hours.  Your body can't perform properly if it doesn't have enough rest.

    Good luck

  6. The best, most natural thing you can do to boost your energy level is SLEEP. You are running on empty. The body cannot function without sleep. I understand that working is a priority, but at what cost? If you are married, when does your family get to see you? And it won't be long before your body starts to fail because it's not getting enough rest. Workaholics don't make anything for themselves but illness.

  7. Guta Kola is an Indian herb that boosts your energy levels...It is also called a "brain herb"

Ashwagandha is another Indian herb that is very good for anxiety & depression + boosts energy level

Co-Q-10 is a powerful antioxidant that gives you energy

Vitamin B group, helps with metabolism + helps with energy

Also add 7-8 glasses of fresh clean water and green leafy veggies to your daily diet...

    Hope it helped

  8. Start your day with a whey protein shake mixed with a good green food. www.blenderculture.com

    Take some CoQ10 200-400mg a day.

    Phosphatidylserine 400-1000mg a day

    Acetyl l 'carnitine 500-2000mg a day

maca is also good for energy www.macaweb.com

rhodiola is good for energy. Just one in the morning is good.

i purchase my supplements from www.vitacost.com they are affordable. I am not affiliated with them.

Take these with a good multivitamin.

Exercise and stay away from caffeine. Eat natural sugars, nuts, good proteins, too many simple carbs aren't good for you.

  9. I started taking green barely in capsule form and citramin in liquid form around 6 months ago,and I feel absolutely fantastic.

  10. Lots of water. A fully grown man should be drinking at least 3 litres a day. This is often the first thing that needs to be looked at. Hydration plays a major role in energy levels.

Exercise - Although you work long hours you should still do regular (3-4 times a week) exercise e.g running, weights, swimming as this also boosts energy levels. THE MORE ACTIVE YOUR BODY THE MORE ENERGY IT HAS.

Herbs like ginseng (Siberian) can help boost energy levels and research says the results are pretty good for this.

Diet - Lots of good food with nuts, pulses, berries, red meat and load of vegetables. You need B vitamins and a good clean diet. This is the other major factor in relation to good energy levels.

You should eat 6 smaller meals each day instead of 3 large meals. Snacking  on good foods (Nuts, bananas, berries) keeps your blood sugar levels stable and aids in good energy levels. I like snacking on almonds and raisins mixed up together.

    Hope this helps!

  11. Try sleeping in a more productive way, it helps you get more out of your day now I can spend long periods awake (43 hrs is my longest) and I don't look or feel tired and drowsy.

(Link below to a site offering sleeping tips)

Also when I became an ovo-lacto-vegetarian I was more energetic, because I was eating more fruit, veg and nuts I got more energy. To make up for the lack of meat I took Multibionta with probiotic, though I'm not sure if they actually work, but technically they should.

Avoid sugary snacks as they only temporarily increase, so your feel tired shortly after. Also try Innocent's Superfood drinks.
