Hi, I'm 16 and have an interview at Food Basics (it's like No Frills or Loblaws for those that don't know) tomorrow morning. I was wondering what sort of questions will they be asking?

Also, what should I wear there? Casual or formal?

Lastly, what should I take along with me as it's my first job interview. Thank you so much.

  1. I just got hired at food basics the beginning of the month and got the job, wear something formal but not to dressy, like a button down top with dark jeans,

also they didint ask me much, since i previously worked for mcdonalds she asked me about that and asked for the number to call, but i dont know i think they were leniant to me because they need ppl.

Still working at food basics as cashier which one are you trying out for? im in the scarborough region, would be nice if you work at my foodbasics would like to talk to someone new, but what are the chances of that lol/

  2. I would wear dress clothes, but not a suit (too formal for the setting). Maybe nice kakhi pants and a button down shirt with a tie. Wear nice shoes. Make sure you are very well groomed (including nails). Take your Social Security card and a photo ID with you.

Make sure you have at least three references. Since it's your first job, the references should be the name, address, and phone number of a respectable adult who has known you for at least a year or two. References from current or past (as long as they left on good terms) employees of Food Basics are valuable. You should call the references first and ask their permission to use them as references. If you don't have time tomorrow to call first, pick people that you know will say yes and call them AS SOON AS you leave the interview to let them know.

    Possible questions:

    1) Why do you want to work at Food Basics?

    2) Why do you want the position that you applied for?

    3) Name your strengths and weaknesses (the weaknesses shouldn't be real weaknesses...they should be something about you that's not too negative...only pick one weakness)

If true...honest, responsible, punctual, personable...are all good strengths to mention.

    4) Why do you think you'll be a good fit for the position and for Food Basics?

Ask the interviewer a few questions:

    5) Find something interesting about the company (probably from their website) to comment on during the interview. The interviewer will be please that you were interested enough to find out information about the company.

    6) Ask what the culture of the company is like.

Be confident. Have a good time. Smile and be friendly! Good luck!

(If you get the job, they'll probably have you fill out a W-2. It's okay to ask for help filling it out. You should probably claim "0" exemptions on the W-2. Otherwise, you might have to pay taxes at the end of the tax year.)
