Help with MS Word and Note Pad??

OK, so here's the thing.

I'm playing this riddle game called Amnesya, and I sometimes need to download files from the site to help me with the game, such as .jpeg files, .txt files, etc. Those files are usually inside a compressed zip folder.

Now, I downloaded a txt file that opens with Note Pad, but I opened using MS Word. It said that the file I tried to open was corrupt, so I decided to just open it using Note Pad. When I did, all these weird looking characters came out. Ex: ð‰Èò î>n•ˆˆÈ*‘Uà]i«EWV‹Š®ü¯Y½àa. Those characters are supposed to be read, though.

How do I get things back to normal?

And now all the files I download from that site, pictures, text files or whatever, come out as a Note Pad file and have all those weird characters.

I need help!! Thanks!! :D

  1. First you need to unzip the files into another file called something else.  Once you have done this you can right click on the file and choose which program you want to open it with.  You might want to check file for viruses before you attempt to open them.  A .jpeg file is a graphic and you will need to open that one with a picture viewer.  A .txt file is simply a  text file and you should be able to open it in word.  If file is corrupt you will need to download file again.  Notepad is normally used if you want to edit the file.
