Question:

Help with New Zealand Immigration question relating to Australian citizenship?

Hi everyone,

I have recently gained my Australian citizenship (yeah!!) through my mother who was born in Adelaide. I know that with an Australian citizenship we are entitled to live in New Zealand - the problem is I have my partner and her child (my step-son) and I am unsure how we can all go over? We all currently live in the UK and my partner and step-son are UK citizens only. I am the only one with an Australian citizenship.

Can we use the NZ version of the partner migration or is there another way?

Has anyone done this?

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

  1. Get your partner to apply for a fiance visa (or spouse visa if your married).  After you've lived in Australia/New Zealand for two years together she can apply for ILR and then after a few years she could gain citizenship.

Not too sure about the kid - if you can show you have sufficient funds to support yourself in the country then getting him in should be fine.  If he is under 5 it is easier.

Do a bit of research.  I am trying to do this the other way round (leave Oz and come to the UK, I have dual nationality and my hubby is an aussie and  our little one is dual nationality)  It's a VERY HARD and quite expensive thing to do.
