I had a cop knock on my door this morning. Apparently im getting an ordinance ticket for dumping my garage at the local dump. I live 1/2 a mile out of town so its illegal. What happens with an ordinance ticket? Do i just pay some fine?

FYI- I live in Wisconsin.

  1. An ordinance ticket is a summons to appear in court to answer charges.  The charges are that you dumped without permission or license.  If you plead guilty or are found guilty, you get a fine to pay.  There is the possibility of up to 1 year in jail, but that is not given out except for flagrant repeat violators.

Apologize to the judge for not knowing the law, and accept the fine.

  2. Yes, you probably pay a fine.  If you think it's too severe you can ask for a court date, explain the circumstances to the judge, and ask for him to lower the fine.

I never heard of such a thing!  Where are you supposed to dump your trash?
