I got a phaaenopsis orchid in may. Some of the flowers had bloomed, and some closed. The closed ones bloomed w/in the next few weeks. All of the flowers gradually died and fell off around the end of July. I still water it like I should and let the water drain, but the stem is turning yellow from the top, down. The above leaves are still green and intact, but some leaves below it are dying. How long (estimate) until it reblooms? Some websites tell me it needs plenty of sunlight to rebloom, and some tell me I need to cut something?

So, my quesion is: What do I need to do to get it to rebloom and how long will it take?

  1. Leave it where it is, cut off the spike, leave the yellow leaves until they easily come off and water it less. You'll see new green in a few weeks/months followed (hopefully) by a new spike and flowers in about 8 months or so.
