Hi, I need these inequalities solved i do not know how to do them. Please describe steps used to solve them.

a) 18 ≤ 21 + x

c) 3k+8≥ 17

d) -13≥ -7w-13

thanks :)

  1. a) 18 ≤ 21 + x

The first step is to subtract 21 from both sides.

    -3 ≤ x

That's the answer. Just try to get x alone.

    b)-13+7y<1

First, add 13 to each side.

    7y=14

    then, divide by 7.

    y=14

    c) 3k+8≥ 17

First, subtract 8 from each side.

    3k≥ 9

Then, divide by 3 on each side.

    k≥ 3

    d)-13≥ -7w-13

First, add 13 to each side. You always want to find the numbers that are not being multiplied by a variable and try to get them to zero. Then, they are out of the equation.

    0≥ -7w

    Then divide by -7

    0≥ w

Hope this helped. They are really easy once you get a handle on them! Keep trying.

  2. the rule is that u basically consider the > or < or ≤ or ≥ an equal sign:

    a) 18 ≤ 21 + x

           -21≤ -21

    ___________

        -3 ≤ x

    b)-13+ 7y< 1

           +13 +13

    ___________

         7y < 14

divide by 7 on both sides

          y < 2

    c)3k+8≥ 17

            - 8 -8

    _________

         3k ≥ 9

      divide by 3

           k ≥ 3

    d) -13≥ -7w-13

           +13 +13

    _______________

         0 ≥ -7w

    divide by -7

        0 ≥ w

  3. The other two people gave you the answers, but they both got letter d wrong.

When you multiply or divide by a negative the inequality symbol must be switched.

0 ≥ -7w, after you divide by negative 7 you get

0 is less than or equal to w.
