  1. The Education Foundation (i think its www.ef.com or something, google it.) is how my friend got here, but she was 17.

Trying to find a trip for a 13 year old is going to be expensive, and very difficult. Many programs will say you have to be 14 or up and at least a freshman in high school. They also have certain GPA expectations, and hardly any groups have scholarships that are actually possible to reach.

For most of the scholarships they will want, probably, a very well written sob story, and amazing grades and recommendations by teachers or employers.

Also, bear in mind that almost any class you take abroad will not transfer the credit, meaning you will repeat a year back home.

All trips I have seen also require you to have at least 4 credits in the language that that country speaks. Also, the least expensive trip I have seen is about 3000 dollars and that was for Germany (that doesnt count school supplies, air fare, or anything like that it is purely for the school and the program itself.)

    Hope I was some help!

  2. I would suggest waiting a year or two.  The best time to study abroad during the school year is your Sophomore or Junior year of high school.  I suggest you go through Rotary.  They offer good scholarships and are a very reputable program.  http://www.rotary.org/en/StudentsAndYout...

For now, you should earn and save money by doing odd jobs.  I went abroad in China during my Junior year of high school and I loved it.  I think I wouldn't have been as ready as I was to leave if I was a couple years younger.

I hope this helped you!  Good luck with your future travels!
