Help with Swelling?

Ok, so my birthday is this friday. The big *21* and I have PINKEYE!!!

The opthamologist said that with the eyedrops she gave me, the redness and swelling *should* go away by friday. Is there anything I can do to help it go down faster. My eye is horribly swollen and looks disgusting.

God knows where I got it, I've not been in contact with many people in the last month and those I have been around don't have it... although they may soon 0_0

HELP! My friends are throwing a HUGE party and I don't want to be a cyclops!

I've been putting a warm wash-rag on it and leaving it on until it's pretty cool. Kind of alternating. What else can I do!?!

  1. As others have said, it should be a cold compress not a warm one.  Boil some water, put it in a bottle and keep it in the fridge. Use a clean piece of tissue or soft cloth and soak it with the cooled water and put on. Replace when it dries out or becomes too warm. Don't use a wash flannel unless you boil it first as they tend to be left out and you could be making the problem worse.  They aren't sterile even if they are clean.

That should help reduce the swelling and it may reduce the pain too.

I think you may have to resort to the 'had a fight' excuse though or you could go dressed as a Pirate!!!!!

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY to YOU!!!!

  2. Wear sunglasses indoors and out - you'll look cool!

  3. 1- don't use anything unless your doctor says to, you can make it worse.

2-no, the swelling will have to go down by its self

3-you don't want heat on it, but instead a good cool cloth to just lay over it......

4-pink eye holds heat, the heat you are applying to it, is not allowing the eye reduce the swelling.

use a very cold wash cloth and gently lay over it..not heat....

do not be rubbing it, or pressing on it, it will make it more red and sore..

also, did I not tell you not to sass me again, now your having to tell people that you have pink eye. that blows my story of punching you out, dang it....ha ha

good luck, hope you get to feeling better real soon

    and H A P P Y   B I R T H D A Y    TO YOU

HAD I KNOWN SOONER, I WOULD HAVE BAKED YOU A CAKE AND SENT IT THRU ON THE INTERNET.....

    HAVE A GREAT 21 GIRL

  4. Generally cool compresses help reduce swelling to a point.  I would switch to an ice pack or at least a cool wash cloth.  Other than that, keep it moisturized with preservative-free artificial tears every few hours, but wait at least five minutes after applying the medication because you don't want to wash it out with the tear.

  5. Pink eye is conjunctivitis.  Conjunctivitis can be bacterial, viral, or caused by allergens.

The best way to help it heal is by using the drops your doctor gave you, not rubbing your eyes, being fanatic about washing your hands, and (if you smoke) not smoking.

You could also try some cool tea bags (be sure you throw them away after each use)

Good luck and happy 21st !

  6. That's about it. Don't put anything in your eye, other than the drops that your doctor gave you. Keep the area clean (use baby shampoo - it's very mild) and keep your fingers away from your eye. It should go down soon, just keep using warm compresses.

  7. Jordie, are you sure you didn't get into a fight?

    Ok, just kidding....

    Good luck & Happy Birthday!!!

  8. Oh no.
