I am in Austrlia. I am looking after an elderly couple (nearly 90 y.o.a)that need to fill out a 1040A tax form for Economic Stimulas payment.

What details are needed?

After personal details, the sample sheet has everything geyed out exeot items 14a, 40b, 44b,c,d

Are they the only parts that need to be filled out?

Next it item 14A (on the Sample form only) is a red box that says "Social security. yier 1 railroadretirment, and veterins compensation, disability and death benefit" Does that mean the amount of Social security paymen they recived from the USA?

  1. It is the amount of social security, plus tier 1 railroad benefits (railroad's equivalent of social security) if any, plus veterans compensation, if any, plus disability and death benefits if any.

Probably the only thing that goes there is social security. The other things are a bit more rare.

  2. Do a married filing jointly return.  Add the two SS amounts together and enter on Line 14A.  Line 14B will be blank.

  3. Fill out a joint return for them.  Fill in the Label section, check box 2 in the filing status section, and 6a and 6b in the exemptions section.  Put the total amount the two of them received for US social security on line 14a.  To get is automatically deposited, fill out 40b,c and d.  You don't need anything in 40b.

Write "STIMULUS PAYMENT" across the top of the front page, and have them both sign and date it in the Sign Here area at the bottom of the back page.

Mail the form to the address given in the instructions.

    That will do it.
