Question:

Help with Tenor Saxophone playing

by  |  earlier

I've bought a new Conn Refurbished tenor(it's beautiful) but I'm having problems going from a low note to a high note quickly. Such as from a b to a high g. I'd like to know what could be causing me to squeak when I do this. Any help would be appreciated

  1. It's either the horn or your embouchure. If it's your embouchure: when you play a low note, you're more relaxed then when playing a high note. You're not relaxed enough though when you play your high note. Don't tighten your mouth too much and you'll squeak less. To practice this, slur from the low note to the high note and vice versa. Then switch back and forth with different articulations.

    Good luck. :)
