Help with Terry Brooks series?

I checked out "Armageddon's Children" by Terry Brooks today. I have not read any of his other books. Will it be ok to go and read this one before reading all of the others? I know he has a lot of series, and they are all linked somehow, so I don't want to read this book out of sequence if it is going to ruin the experience. Is it ok to go ahead and read it, or should I go back and check out something else? Thanks! (PS. I've already checked out the website)

  1. Armageddon's Children is the first novel in Terry Brooks' fantasy trilogy entitled The Genesis of Shannara, which bridges the events of Brooks' Word/Void trilogy with his Shannara series. It takes place in an apocalyptic world around the year 2100 (about eighty years after the novel Angel Fire East) and details the events during the Great Wars, a historical conflict referenced frequently in the Shannara books. It is followed by the novel The Elves of Cintra.

I lifted that out of wikipedia.

So.......it's the 1st book in a planned set of 3 books.  It would be a different setting and with new characters, so in that sense, you could probably read it first and not lose too much.

If you want to have detailed background to go from then read the Word/Void series first:

Running With the Demon,in A Knight of the Word and Angel Fire East.

There are 7 Shannara novels that will take place in the future of "Armageddon's Children" and the 2 books scheduled to follow.

So you will have to wait awhile for the new saga to conclude.

You could read the Sword of Shannara, the first novel. and then follow that series until all 3 of the new books are out.

But, since we all read the Shannara series first(because that's all there was!) and it hasn't hurt us, I think you could read those first and not have a problem.

Or since all the characters are gonna be different you could read the one you're thinking of.

I don't believe they are so connected that you will have a problem.
