Help with VA benefits?

I'm in the Army and I’ve been diagnosed with Degenerative joint disease of the Spine and herniated disc of my C-5 and C-6 vertebra and given a P-2 profile where I can’t run or do pushups. I’ve been in 5 years and ETS next year so I’ll have served six. I hurt my neck doing crew drills during my second year but never went to the doctor. Then one morning I woke up and had horrible pain and couldn’t move.Does anyone know a ballpark figure or % of what my VA benefits will be? My doctor said I’ll defiantly get something but doesn’t know what. Has anyone had anything similar?

  1. your best bet would be to go the D.A.V. and have them help you out

  2. I'm not sure of what you'll get. But, as soon as you get out, go to your local VA rep located in the courthouse. He will help you out. Also, make a copy of your medical record before you get out. You will need proof of injury and treatment. You will also want to contact the NSO at the local VA hospital. He will be able to help you. I would also recommend joining the DAV when you get your disability.

  3. Bill C was right on, contact your VA rep, and make sure you make copies of your medical records.  You can go the the VA Website and research the disability tables, but a lot depends on range of motion and such.  I received 10% for Degenerative Joint Disease in the lower back.  Make sure receive treatment for the injuries and be able to show a pattern of treatment.  Just going the the Dr once will not really help you out.

  4. I am in the process of getting out.  I will be ETSing.  I have been to some of the VA briefs and the only thing I can tell you is I have no clue and nobody else here will either.  Your med records will be reviewed, make sure you go to sick call when you have a problem, you shouldn' t have to suffer.

Each case is looked at individually.  You will be assessed by the Army but can be reassessed by the VA.  People say the VA is more generous.

The bottom line is you won't know until you separate.
