Since getting a new computer (with Vista) I've had problems getting on some websites....just get a white screen and the page never loads. I went on a vista forum and they said that if I download SP1 this should solve the problem....problem is that microsoft is one of the websites that never loads....anywhere else I could download this without having to go on the microsoft website.

  1. http://download.microsoft.com/download/8...

Is the link to Vista Service Pack 1 for 64-bit Vista

    http://download.microsoft.com/download/3...

Is the link to Vista Service Pack 1 for 32-bit Vista

So, if you right-click on the link and choose to copy the appropriate link location, you should be able to open a new window in your Web browser, press the F6 key to highlight the address bar, and press the key combination Ctrl + V to paste the link location into the address bar, and then press the Enter key.

The magical download you desire should then begin.  Of course, I use Firefox and have the DownloadThemAll download manager catching all my download links, so I don't generally worry about unfortunate download stoppage because I can just go the DownloadThemAll download manager, click on the stopped download, and then click Resume to start up where the download halted.

Your mileage may vary.  Good luck.

  2. try either of these web sites.

"it's vista" and or "vista 4 beginners".

yours and other related questions and answers can be found there.

you may not be aware vista offers~if you have a USB memory stick ~plug it into a USB port on your PC tower.

a window will open on your screen one of the options being,to use the "stick "as extra RAM memory .a 1GB stick will give you approx 0.8 GB of extra memory.

    try also ~download (free) "ccleaner"

    run it .

it will clear temporary files and cookies from your browser.

it will save memory and help with your browsing

    hope this helps.
