Question:

Help with Windows Movie Maker?

I tried to put in a avi video about 102MB but this message poped up:

The file C:\Documents and Settings\Kate Norman\My Documents\My Pictures\My Videos\jensen.avi cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again.

I don't know what to do, i would really appreciate the help because it has to be presented tommorow, and really i'm fully stuck

  1. The acknowledged expert for windows movie maker is papajohn

If he can't answer your question then no-one can!

As other respondents have said you should look to download the appropriate codec to enable you to view the file (see http://www.free-video-editing.com/codecs... for more information on what codecs are)

It must be said, though, that WMM is not the best tool out there. Apparently CNET rated it 1 star out of 5 due to stability and response issues.

However, there are numerous free editing tools for video you might want to try:-

    Jahshaka

    T@B ZS4

    Wax

    Video Spin

    Vivia

    Avidemux

    Blender

    .. to name a few

Information about these and more, and a link to papajohn can be found on my web site.

    Thanks... Freevideoman

  2. Install the codecs.  I recommend the K-lite codec Pack.   Contains pretty much all the codecs you will ever need.

  3. Search for and install a avi codec

  4. try converting it to a different file like wvm or so
