Question:

Help with Wireless Internet?

I know this is in the wrong section, but I wanted some responses..... Plus my kids will be needing the Internet for school.

I am looking to get the Internet at home finally ( I know, I know).

We do NOT have a home phone line (land line) - we have an older Dell computer that is slower than snot.

So, I realize my only option is to go wireless Internet, right??

How do I go about doing that? What are the best companies out there to go with and the best deals?

What equipment will I need to buy to set it up? What do I need to tell the companies I have when I call - just that I have no land line? What speed do I need for the Internet?

Any and all help will be appreciated.

Please type in simple terms, I don't understand all the computer mumbo - jumbo talk. Thanks!!

  1. Going wireless doesn't mean your dell will  go faster. The cable and phone companies will bring you a router. We have time warner, but verizon also provides great service to. I don't think it matters what company you get their service is all the same. They all charge too much. I suggest you either update the hard drive on you current computer, or get a new one. Look for a computer that says 2.00GHz.(thats the speed) Stay away from Vista(operating system) Doesn't work. I have a Mac. I was a PC person for years. With Mac I have no problems at all and I've had it for over two years. Best of Luck!

  2. Call your cable company..they are the ones that usually handle this.
