  1. You can find some great old record players at Garage sales.  many were very expensive when new and you can get them for just about nothing now.  Now, I wonder if you want a record player with speakers etc attached or whether you just want a turntable.  Turntables are easier to find these days but you can still find both.

Also, good will and other thrift stores often carry these things.

  2. the player will play any record its designed to play. 33/45/78.

as for where to find one try a thrift shop if money is tight, or a nostalgia shop if cost is not a problem. if you have a pile of 45's to play and some spare money laying around, try an old juke box. your collection at the push of a button. Hypercool dude!

  3. I was looking for a cheap record player, so I picked a vintage player up for 40 bucks at the record store, and it turned out being a pretty bad investment. The sound quality was bad, the pitch was always off even when adjusted to normal, the needle broke off, and I ended up returning it. From what i've heard, it is generally rare to find a fully functional vintage player. Then I bought a turntable for 100$ off zzounds.com, and it turned out being extremely good, sound quality is better than any cd player I had ever used. Keep in mind you're going to need a preamp to hook it up to some good speakers, but it is worth the extra cash.

  4. look on your local craigslist.com, goodwills, and other second hand stores.  I have one that a friend found at a yard sale.  It plays the kind of records that have the small hole in them.

  6. we bought one at Big Lots for $55.oo , and Wal-mart, Sam's club and K-mart also carried them.  It's the one with a cd player in the front of it, and a radio.

  7. If you get an old one, and it plays 33 1/3, 45, and 78 rpms, then it will play all records.  There is a slide switch to change speeds.

  8. Look on craigslist.

Buy a real record player in which you can vary the weight of the stylus. Once it is hooked up to your stereo, you can digitize it. In analog devices, the sound reproduced by cheap devices like low-end tape recorders and record players  produce distorted sounds.
