Help with a Trigonometry question please... ?

When engineers are constructing bridges, they have to figure out how the building will respond to things such as earthquakes, wind, blasts, and extreme impacts. Why is that important and how is mathematics a factor?

  1. well my guess is that a building shaped like a cube wont fare as well as a pyramid. this is because shapes with over 3 sides are weaker, the more sides, the weaker the building. a triangle, however, is stable and can't collapse.
