Question:

Help with a baby bird egg!!!!!?

Unfortunately, my cat thinks she is a lion and kills birds and mice EVERYDAY. This morning, I went to let my dogs out in the backyard, and instead of finding a dead bird (which I found yesterday morning) I found a blue robin's egg. The egg has been cracked a little bit and has some dents in it, and I know it has probably been there overnight. Is there anyway to know if the egg will hatch if the egg has already been cracked too early and if it has been left outside all night (it was a little bit chilly last night, also). If there is a chance, how can I help it to survive?

  1. Sorry, this egg sounds dead..not much you can do for it at this point.  You sound like you are concerned about wildlife so I really do not understand why you continue to let your cat out to kill native wildlife on a daily basis.  You cared enough to post this question about helping an egg so I imagine you care enough to keep you cat indoors..not only for the safety of wildlife but for your cats OWN safety as well.  Cats are actually responsible for the death of millions of millions of songbirds each year just in the U.S. alone and are contributing to the decline and endangerment of many species. Scientists are very concerned and have started a "cats indoors" campaign.  See more info below:

If your cat injures a bird in the future and you need a rehab..look for a local one here, or on the off chance the egg is still alive you might be able to find someone to incubate it:

  2. no you would ahve to folk out bout £80 to buy an incubator then it would probley die any way or it might not be fertile and it will be dead after last night you might aswell leave it there is nothing you can dobut it was nice of you to consider helping it
