  1. If you are only going to get one rabbit, don't worry about getting it spayed or neutered.  As long as it doesn't have contact with another rabbit it won't get territorial.

For price, at a pet store rabbits go for anywhere between $20-$60.  If you go to a breeder, they are $15-$30 and are typically better quality.

Rabbits, unlike other animals, don't need shots at anytime in their life.  Just be sure that your rabbit is clean, has plenty of water and hay, has no vegetables (they ruin their digestive system), and he or she is very well ventilated.

    Good luck getting your rabbit!

  2. I have owned four rabbits and mine have all lived outside and been fine. I would really like to keep a rabbit inside though. You can toilet train rabbits you know, just like cats.  Mine have never been spayed or neutered but make sure you either get 2 females or 1 male cos the males fight. You could also just get one female. I have never taken any of my rabbits to the vet except when we were away one weekend someone let it out of the cage and it got paralyzed and we found it under a bush and had to take it to the vets to get put down. The thing that will cost the most money is probably the food, bedding and the hutch/cage. Keep your rabbit away from electrical cords cos they like to chew stuff.

  3. Ditto Elizabeth. They should be neutered and not housed outdoors.

  4. As a devoted, well-read rabbit owner of 8 years, I'm horrified by the first answer!

PLEASE feed your rabbit vegetables!  Hay and water are important; they're the staples of a rabbit diet, but you must feed them at *minimum* 2 cups of fresh leafy vegetables per 6 pounds of body weight.  Fruits and sugary vegetables (e.g. carrots) can, as Betsy says, damage a rabbit's sensitive digestive system, but they need the vitamins in lettuces.

Also, spaying / neutering a rabbit can greatly decrease his or her chance of ovarian, uterine, or testicular cancer.

Thirdly, rabbits can be litterbox trained, so you don't need to worry about p**p all around your room (see the link ending "litter.html" below).

Finally, in terms of where to get bunnies, I recommend your local shelter or rabbit rescue organization (the Bunny Bunch operates where I live, but you can Google "rabbit rescue" and doubtless find something near you), from which adoption will be cheap or possibly even free.

I encourage you to explore the rest of the House Rabbit Society website, as well.

ETA:  Females fight, too.  Spaying and neutering helps some with that, but your best bet, if you're getting two, is to get one male and one female.  Two of my females tried to kill each other.

  5. You can litter train rabbits, so if you let them out when they are litter trained they will try to hold it until they go back to there cage.

Spaying a Neutering would be a good choice. When they get to be around 6 months there hormones will kick in and you'll get a moody rabbit.

If there is a problem or something usual then definatly go to a vet. It depends on the  vet and the health probalem you rabbit has on how much money it will cost.

  6. rabbits dont require really any money put into them besides foodk, they are extremely easy to take care of, you should get a holand lop, mini lop, dwarf, angora,or lionhead. they are the best,,really cute and nice =]

    good luck
