Help with a fancy looking cheesecake recipe?? for a birthday

Its my boyfriends birthday in a few days and i want to make one of those really smooth looking cakes..and I want to be able to have a design on it and i want the inside to be cheesecake. Anyone know what the smooth part is called? kinda like in this picture : http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/gg54/McScorching/BeigeWeddingcopy.jpg

  1. That's called fondant, and it's a hardened sugar type of "frosting". It tastes nasty.

    I suggest using a regular buttercream frosting, or sweetened whipped cream, or even a glaze or ganache. This way, if your cheesecake cracks, you can cover it up. A chocolate ganache would apply smoothly and look similar to a fondant.
