Question:

Help with a huge acne problem?

I didn't start washing my face until 6th grade, and I grew up faster than all the other kids so I was breaking out, but most of the zits have stayed with me EVEN NOW. Lately, it seems like they are getting way more frequent, and most of them I can't get rid of. I've been using clearasil which has kept most of the zits from forming, and I haven't had a red bump in a while, but I still have all those little bumps along my chin and around my nose. There are so many little ones in my pores, I want to find an acne medication that doesn't just prevent new acne. There are tons of the zits, it's humiliating to have such an ugly face!!!!

My mom is totally against proactiv because she would have to call in to cancel the membership, because when you order they will automatically keep billing you and sending you more supplies every 2 months. She's a chicken. I can't try any of those acne prescriptions either, of course, because I haven't even seen a doctor in years. I need something that I can get at a store, but might work better than clearasil.

  1. Try washing your face with a washcloth. Wash twice a day. It really worked for me! And make sure you rinse very well.

Use the Biore blackhead strips. They work really well!

Also, I use Cetaphil. My dermatologist told me to use the cetaphil products.

If this doesn't work, go to a dermatologist. Most insurances cover it!

  2. At the mall i go to they have a little booth that is a proactive store and you can buy it there with cash so they don't automatically send you things. so next time you go to the mall just look around for it im sure they have one there.

  3. ok  im an acne sufferer too

use neutrogen clear pore cleanser/mask  (its a 2 in one)

it really works! ive been using it for lieke 3months now and it truly works because it has 3.5% of benzoyl peroxide which kills breakout causing bacteria

for zits  b4 going to bed put on normal white paste toothpaste  it drys the pimple out

  4. Here are some wonderful tips for taking better care of your skin. i have tried these and got wonderful results.what is surprising is that these steps are really simple

  5. go to a dermatologist.

don't waste your money on drug store products that might not work.

  6. Noxzema or stridex alcohol free pads, with biore triple action astringent. + a moisturizer. I saw a DRAMATIC difference in my skin. ecspecailly stubborn zits and blackheads!

  7. the more you use mud mask or scrubs the more dirt and bacteria is coming out of your skin and that turns into a pimple so don't use any thing except hand soap lightly in the shower everyday wash and then quickly rinse when out of the shower straight away put a moisturizer or make so its got like a film over your skin that way dirt and bacteria wont get in. bingo no more pimples

  8. Iam a Registered Nurse and I specialize in skin care and teen acne.

In my experience of 12 years alot of commercial store bought products DO NOT WORK! They often contain too much benzoyl peroxide which tends to over dry your skin which causes irritations.

Most of my patients are teenagers and I deal with acne problems and in 12 years most of the products out there have not helped.

PLEASE READ THIS WITH YOUR MOM if you are under 18, I have a great solution for you!

Your question is very broad and you need to get professional advice. I will explain why it's a broad question!

Your age plays a role! How old are you? Do you always have breakouts?

However, acne can result from several factors such an increase in hormone levels. In males testosterone or androgens. In females, androgens respectively. The increase in androgen levels can stimulate the oil glands to become enlarged and thus more oil production is produced. An increased oil production can clog the pores with oil or sebum ( white thick substance) which cause the cell walls of the pores in the skin to breakdown. This process allows bacteria to form and thus breakouts develop.

Genetics may also be a cause. It is a myth that greasy food or chocolate causes breakouts.

However, using make-up sponges that are not changed or washed often can contaminate the pores with bacteria which may develop into acneic breakouts.

If you are a teenager ( which I assume that you are) your hormones play a definite role in your breakouts.

If you have severe breakouts than you might need medication. There are many factors.

The most important thing is that you need products that are AGE APPROPRIATE! Every age group has different products appropriate for them. If you are young than you need milder products as to not dry out your beautiful young skin.

The problem with commercial skin products is that they are manufactured for MASSES OF PEOPLE and are not specifically made for different peoples' needs.

Your skin type is different than mine and your age differs from mine so how is it logical that we both use the same skin product for breakouts. We need different strengths of cleansers and toners. Do you kind of understand what I am getting at?

Here is my STRONG SUGGESTION for you. I refer all my students and patients to this website:

    www.aboutyourskincare.com

You need to consult with professionals and on this website YOU CAN ASK QUESTIONS FOR FREE AND A SKIN EXPERT/PHYSICIAN WILL ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS. It would be a shame if you dont take advantage of this free service.

Lastly, they have incredible products for breakouts and they make them specifically for every kind of skin type. That means that if your breakouts are more severe than mine, than while we both will buy the same product yours will have stronger ingredients than mine will.

They have a mild glycolic acid cleanser that's great for your type of skin and also a DRYING LOTION ( I have 3 bottles) that you put directly on your breakouts and the next day it's gone. It's truely magic in a bottle.

A basic guideline for properly taking care of your skin is this ( now if you're a young girl you will need fewer products than this):

    Night time:

    1. Exfoliate the skin

    2. Mild Glycolic Acid Cleanser

    3. Mild Glycolic Acid Toner ( cleans off the excess debris and balances the PH level of the skin).

    4. Drying Lotion used only on breakouts

    5. Moisturizer

    Morning:

    1. Mild Glycolic Acid Cleanser

    2. Moisturizing cream

The above is a standard you may need to only use one or two products. Visit: www.aboutyourskincare.com

As I suggested and click on the ASK FOR FREE section send them an email and you will get free expert skin care advice.

    Good Luck to you,

    Michelle

  9. Best way to clear up acne fast is to use a regulating product and to be consistent. The products with peroxide or other harsh chemicals will cause your skin to dry and over-produce oil.

Mary Kay Timewise set. The entire set is affordable, it prevents aging, and helps to regulate oil production. The set lasts about 3-4 months if you use it twice daily, so it's very cost effective. You would want to look at combination-to-oily skin classification if you ever break out.

I used to use the Cetaphil antibacterial soap and the lotion. Now that I am a consultant I tried the Mary Kay product to test it myself. I'm 25 and didn't think I had signs of aging already, but I was amazed by how small my pores looked immediately following the treatment, and how the color of my skin regulated after about a week.

You may also want to look at the Microdermabrasion set. It is great to use twice a week for acne-proned skin. Keeps your skin clean, and is not irritating at all. The product uses pharmacy-grade crystals, as opposed to the larger sand particles you see in popular brands like St. Ives.

Check the products out on my website: www.marykay.com/meganwojtas.

  10. From what you've said, looks like your acne is worse than most.  If you want fast results you should go to the dermatologist and get medicine. They have the best medicine and have access to knew treatments everyday. The over the counter stuff might not work for you.

You could also try washing your face more frequently with special soaps. You also need to pay attention to your diet. Do you drink a lot of sodas or eat a lot of greasy food and junk food? All of these contribute to zits and can make it even worse for people dealing with acne.

Another thing to consider is your hormones. When girls go through puberty, bumps are normal. It's part of the process. Maybe you can find something in the stores but if it's become a big problem for you, go to the doctor. It maybe more than regular acne.  You should get it checked out just in case. It could be excema or something else and that will need to be treated by a doctor.
