  1. given  y= x ^2 + 2x-1

    inverse is  x= y ^2 + 2y-1

    solve for y

    y ^2 + 2y=x+1

    y ^2 + 2y+1=x+1+1

    (y+1)(y+1)=x+2

    y+1=sqrt (x+2)

    y=sqrt(x+2)-1

  2. y=x ^2 + 2x-1

    x=y ^2 + 2y-1

    x+1=y ^2 + 2y

    x+1=y(y+2)

    y=(x+1)/(y+2)
