Help with a stero remote?

i just got a new stero and it comes with a remote and unfournuatly the remote has a very short range of about 4 or 5 feet maby even less is there any way to improve the range that my remote will work from?

Change the batteries, remotes that come with the tv may have batteries but theyare not fresh.

infrared light is light but we cant see it the stereo sees it but it is dim and you need to be close for it to see it...new batteries makes the light brighter  and better detected by the stereo...

Make sure the IR receiver on the stereo isn't blocked or obstructed.  It can be difficult to locate, its a rather small 1cm piece of black or dark red plastic.  Make sure that has a clear shot to your remote.  Glass is far less problematic to IR remotes than say, cloth or wood.
