Help with a summer internship/community service program?

Hi, I realize that I am starting this quite late, and I think I made a big mistake.

I am a freshman becoming a sophomore in high school, and I am looking for a community service place or somewhere where I can volunteer in NYC. I have looked around a lot, but everywhere I go, there are some applications, deadlines, and processes which I have missed.

Does anybody know of a place where I can receive some community service credit or simply volunteer? All help is appreciated.

Specifically, I would like to help in a science-y environment, or a charity. Medicine, or working in a hospital, is not really my thing, but I would like to give it a shot.

Thanks.

  1. Check out volunteermatch.org

It will give you a good idea of the opprotuntities that exist locally and some of the volunteer jobs that you could do.

Also call your local branch of United Way.  They may be looking for a volunteer for a special project or could recommend one of their agencies that might need help.

Don't give up!  Your help is needed, you've just gotta make contact with the right place :)

  2. Most hospitals have a volunteer program. You could also try animal shelters, food banks, homeless shelters, or your neighborhood community center.

Great job looking to volunteer! You are making the world a better place!!
