I played in a tournament this past weekend. I was in second after the first day in the Championship flight. The second day the tournament gets called off due to rain after the first nine. Only the Championship flight finishes the front nine. Is it right of the tournament commitee to use a 27-hole total for the Championship and only 18 for the other 2 flights? Thanks.

  1. Since you were supposed to play 36 and everyone in your flight got to play 27, then it is fair to use the 27 hole total.  Since the other flights not everyone got in 27, they can only go back to the 18 hole score.

Let me guess - after 27 holes you weren't in second anymore.

  2. The Committee in charge of the competition has the right to make whatever decision is equitable for the circumstances. If rain limited the Championship flight to 27 holes and each of the teams in  the flight completed the 27 holes, the Committee can and will declare a winner on that basis.. If the other flights were unable to complete 9 holes due to the rain  the competition has to revert back to the place where the other two flights ended the previous day and the leaders at that time are declared winners for the shortened competition

  3. I disagree.  Nine holes is not a round of golf and unless stipulated ahead of time those nine holes should not count or you should finish the round.

  4. The match or tournament committee is responsible for and rulings or decisions regarding the tournament. If there are no published rules prior to the even being held, then what they say goes.

  5. That would suck.... other 2 flights would seem to have the advantage to me

  6. If the flights are not competing against each other, then the committee can do this. All of the competitors who play against each other need to play under the same conditions.

  7. As long as everyone in the Championship flight all played the same number of holes, that is fair.  Since you are not competing against the other flights, then it doesnt matter if you played different number of holes.

If you didn't play well on the second day, don't look for excuses in the conditions, the rules committe, or anyone else other than yourself.  Try to figure out why you didn't play your best on the second day and how to correct it.  If you played your best and got beat, be a gentleman and a sportsman and congratulate the winner with manners anfd honor, which is one of the finest traditions of golf, and what makes golf the best sport ever invented.

I don't mean to preach, but there are unfavorable rulings every week with the pro tour, and you never hear any of the pros complain.  They accept the ruling of the USGA and chalk it up as a learning experience.  Follow their lead.
