  1. Ya gotta have warmth to dry the oil stain . It can take 3 days to dry in 65 degree room.just wait it out theres a huge differance between 65 75 degree drying time.

  2. Sounds like you have used oil based stain which does take time to dry and can bleed out of certain types of woods days after.

If you have not removed the old finish properly the stain will just stay on the surface.

Try a water base stain, thats all i ever use.

  3. they shouldn't be sticky at all. sounds to me like either the stain was not completely mixed, or you didn't wipe off the stain after application.

stain should be stirred not shaken until there is no more pigment on your stirring stick. stain should be wiped off several minutes after application. shade of stained is obtained by multiple coats. if you are using a water based stain, you will need to raise the grain of the wood before staining by wiping with water, and sanding off the raised grain.

sand between each coat with at least 220grit paper(I go up to 400). the final feel of the cabinet will be as it feels after the final sanding.

    Hope that helps.
