Hi

I went to the Dentist about 3 weeks ago with toothache, he said I had an abssess and prescribed me Amoxicillian. It got a bit better, but didnt clear up, i had another apointment a week later and had prescribed to me more Amoxicillian. A week later my gum swelled up, and began to discharge, Again I saw the Dentist and he put me on a local and then removed all the puss from the absses, I know he drilled and such, not sure what exactly he did to remove it though.

This was Thursday, he said it would help the pain, but it's actually made it worse. The swelling has gone down but my tooth is now more sensitive than ever, I can't swallow it hurts that much. My next appointment at the dentist isn't till a week tommorow.

Anyone got any advice?

  1. your dentist is playing the fool with you. He should have started root canal treatment the first time you been to him.

  2. You'll probably need root canal.

EDIT: I don't understand what you mean by only having the root canal when the infection clears up. I had a root canal and it cleared the infection.. that was the point in having it. I had really bad pain (i had to take paracetamol every 5-6 hours because without it the pain was unbearable), and it was obvious there was an infection. I had a root canal and had no pain afterwards. The pain completely disappeared and haven't had pain since. and don't worry, root canal isn't painful at all. Good luck

  3. I had this recently.  Just gotta keep taking the antibiotics and painkillers - I know it's miserable though.  And yes, you have to wait for the infection to clear up before you can get the root canal done.

  4. yeah, you should be free from infection and swelling before you have the root canal treatment

try to take mefenamic acid 500mg or ponstan for painkiller. or you juz go back to the dentist asap. (if you can't handle it)

  5. Are you going to take any other course of action other than antibiotics.  With an abssess a root canal or removal is necessary otherwise the problem with persist and worsen.  And if it is to worsen, the infection can leak into your body causing major damage adn without treatment even death.

  6. Well my daughter had an abscess and the dentist pulled her tooth out (baby tooth) and did not give her an antibiotic and it cleared up by it's self and she has had no problems with it since............
