I'm studying a set of my ancestors & I'm a bit confused if anyone could help me find the correct records & sort this out I would really appreciate it. I'm trying to figure out who a man name James Duke's biological mother was he lived 1677-1751 his father's name was henry Duke & appearently henry duke had two wives one named Elizabeth Taylor & one named Lydia Hansford. I've been looking at family trees of other owners on ancestry.com but some of the dates are mixed up & don't match so, I'm confused. Could anyone help me please? i've traced this side back so far & I just want to make sure I have the right woman. Thank you very much.

  1. I can't help you with the Dukes, but I can give you some advice about the family trees at ancestry.com. You are just as well off to not look at them at all. So many folks are copying trees and not sourcing anything, that it's almost impossible to do anything BUT get confused when you look at them. It is helpful to contact the tree owners (if they'll answer your message) and find out where they got their info and try to verify things that way.

Good luck. I've got one person on my tree that is listed on about 15 trees, but she has a common name and none of the folks know where they got their information about the people they have listed as her parents. It's frustrating.........
