Help with an engagement party?

We just got engaged about 2 weeks ago and we're going to host our own engagement party. Any ideas?

Don't host your own party.  It  is very stressful and you won't enjoy it as much as you will if you have a friend or family member host it for you.  You should be the center of attention.  Not the one running around making sure everyone has a drink or food.

traditionally the bride's parents are supposed to throw it, but if they don't volunteer, go for it. it's just like any party (planning wise) invitations, food, drinks, decor, etc. how did you guys get engaged?

i got engaged a week ago in the bahamas. we're having our engagement party in 3 weeks and it's bahama themed. jerk chicken, bahama mamas to drink, grilled pineapple, etc. feel free to email me with details so i can help a little more.
