So, I have to write an essay, but I need a little help.

Assignment: In a well written essay, discuss the following theme : Revenge does not fulfill the needs of a human soul; it is a negative force that brings about changes for the worse. Explain how this might or might not be one of the themes of the novel.

I can't seem to bring up any thought on it. I am stumped. =[

(Probably because I didn't get to finish the book, but I need to write this by Thursday, so I am screwed if I don't come up with something...

  1. Well the whole book is about one man's quest for revenge against those who "killed" him.  He spends 98% of the novel plotting and working on the most Machiavellian schemes to commit this revenge and is mean and miserable through the whole thing until he learns the truth Mercedes has hidden from everyone, Her son is Monte Cristo's son.  It is a tale about how revenge may drive you but love will save you.

  2. This would be a theme for The Count of Monte Cristo. I'm not going to write the whole essay for you, but I'll help get you started.

The Count wanted revenge on Villefort, and was going to kill Valentine to do so. His plan is set in motion, but just as it is about to succeed, Maximilien Morrel tells the Count about his love for Valentine. Had the Count's revenge plot succeeded, one of his dearest friends would have been heart-broken.
