Help with an ethics question relating to a lab?

Question

You have been working hard to repeat Dr. Who’s result that adding tapping on differentiated muscle cultures will cause myotubes to spontaneously twitch. You cannot repeat the experiment. Each time you go back to Dr. Who he says he remembers a new trick to make the experiment work. After a while you give up. Do you think Dr. Who was lying about this observation (which he published in Nature)? What would convince you one way or the other?

He might not want to give away all his tricks.  It could also be that Dr. Who did not doument his findings and procedures properly and he doenst remember his own experiment.. happens frequently.
