My school is doing Seussical Jr. and I REALLY want to be Gertrude McFuzz. I'm thinking about using a high, squeaky voice to pull off the character. Should I stick with my normal voice, which is kind of high anyway, or stick with a high squeaky character voice. ALSO, To try out, should I use Notice Me Horton, to show off my voice, or Amayzing Gertrude, to show I can really get into character??? Srry its long but I REALLY want the part

  1. okay so u have to be as squeaky as possible and still be able to keep it up. and GET YOUR RANDOMNESS READY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!... be COMPLETELY INSANE! and have fun because seussical is all about the fun! XD good luck i hope ya get it!

  2. OK, as a Seussical veteran, I would say be as squeaky as possible without damaging your voice so you can sing and also without sounding too nails on a chalk board annoying. And as for the singing, I would use "Notice Me Horton" because it will show off your voice and if you really get into character with it, you'll do great!

From a fellow actress, BREAK A LEG :]

  3. I just got done with seussical the musical i was gertrude mcfuzz!! she is such a fun role to play.If your trying out at your school they might have already picked a song from the show for EVERYONE to sing that way they can see how different each person sounds while performing the same song.

If your school wants you to have sheet music ready NEVER sing a song from the show you're trying out for.Sing 16 bars of a song you are capable of singing and that does kind of bare a likelyness of the character you want. But sing it in your normal voice.

If you want to use a song from the show for sure use notice me horton. But change up the character a bit.Make Gertrude your own character.Don't do everything the same as the original gertrude.

Good luck! have fun with show and i hope you get the part.

  4. Unless it is a requirement, NEVER sing a song from the show you're auditioning for. Ever. Because even if you do well on that, you're only showing them what you can do with that song and that song only. If you use a different song of a similar style, you're showing them how well you can handle that style and they'll want to hear more of you. And when you are singing any song in front of an audience you'll want to get into the emotions and character of the original singer, whether it's Christine from Phantom or Kelly Clarkson.

As for the high voice, I say stick with your normal voice and if you get the part, ask the director what they had in mind for Gertrude's character.
