Question:

Help with ballet. Should I take a class?

I'm very inflexible, and I can't say I'm a very good dancer, but then again I've never really tried. My friend is trying to get me to sign up for a ballet class with her. The class is for people who have never done it before, so I guess that's good. But my friend has taken gymnastics and tumbling forever, so I feel like she's already going to be good at this. I know it will be harder for me than everyone else in the class, because I can't even touch my toes. Not to mention my parents aren't exactly supporting this. Should I go for it anyway?

  1. Like people have said, gymnastics isn't going to help much, just with flexibility. But if your parents don't want you to, you should at least ask them why they don't want you to. Maybe they have a specific reason. But if they actually don't mind, than go for it! Ballet is definitely the class you should take though, it is the base for all dance.

  2. Whatever you want. Since it's for beginners, you don't need to be great. As you start taking it, u tend to become more flexible. Plus, gymnastics and tumbling don't really help with ballet, which is a whole lot more graceful. Go for it, if that's what you desire! FOLLOW UR DREAMS!♥

  3. When I started ballet I wasn't really flexible either but as you improve, you will be able to do many things. Just have fun and you'll do great. To improve your flexibility, you could practice stretching everyday.

  4. Do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dance is so fun and if you suck you can always quit!

I suggest ballet first or whatever type of dance you want to do.

why don't your parents want you to do it?

my dad doesn't like me dancing, but i do it anyway.

    :]

    go for it girl

  5. Having taken gymnastics and tumbling will not help your friend with ballet, it will not give her an advantage over you.

Not being able to touch your toes will not be a problem , as you continue to dance your muscles will become more supple, therefore becoming more flexible.  As it is a beginners class you will all be around the same standard and will all learn and progress together.  Good luck, ballet is wonderful and is amazing exercise.

  6. gymnastics and tumbling wont help very much with ballet at all. a ballet class would be the best for you to take .. it will improve your flexibility and your technique for all other kinds of dance. it will also help your posture and stuff
