  1. Go a bit wide when starting around the barrel, but then pull close on the other side. Also, just let him run, free up your reins! And then when you come to the finish line, say "whoa" and pull back steadily till he stops. Hope this helps, and good luck!

  2. Sounds like you need to try another bit...one with a longer shank for more Whoa!!! and maybe one a little bit more severe in the mouth. What type you use?

  3. No amount of pulling is going to help cause unless your King Kong you will have no chance of pulling him up.  Morgans have one of the strongest necks so when you're pulling he has already locked that neck and you have lost!  I would suggest that you keep your hands down low on the withers. I would love it if you e-mail me with the type of bit you are using and all equipment that you have on him also what you have tried, Gus just wants to be the fastest and you are complicating things for him!!! lol Shifting your weight is very critical and I would practice this at a trot.  If your training is kinda a fight session to slow gus down then remove the barrels and mark round circles in the dirt for yourself and this will help gus focus on you and not the barrels he wants to zip around.  Just remember to keep those hands down! On approach to the barrel, because Gus has no problem with speed try to sit down about 3 strides before the barrel and keep your hands down, lean a little bit back and no i don.t mean lay right back!haha  This will increase the weight on his haunches allowing you to then control the turn.
