Help with becoming a counsellor?

I'm starting a counselling course in September, moving onto a degree in January and was wondering If anyone has done the course before how hard is it? any things I can prepare myself for and any extra advice would be greatly appreciated!

You did,nt say, what type of counselling your studying.But usually you will not just walk into a job, after you,ve finished your courses.You will have to work in different enviroments for a while.Say maybe a couple of years.I worked in the care sector for about 18 yrs before I thought about counselling, from care assistant to Staff nurse, to social worker.Then I studied with The Open University, in Child and adult social care, went through all the courses,I accrured enough points to take my Degree in Sociology and Psychology, Luckily I passed with flying colours, and got my Doctorate, but that took me 4 years.and lots of money, so this thing takes time Im afraid, but.. if thats what you want to do, I wish you all the luck in the world.
