Help with blackjack 21 ?

Hi all,

I play Backjack (21) with freinds (for no money just play with chips) and occasionally (very occasionally) on the internet for money...

However it got me thinking in a casino does the player ever acually touch the cards that they are dealt ?

I just wonder because of how on the internet they are laid on the table you choose hit/stay etc then the dealer just takes them (with no need for the player to touch them)

So long stong short... Does the player touch the cards that they are dealt? or do they remain untouched on the table until cleared up by the dealer ?

  1. There is no need to touch the cards.  They are dealt around to everyone and when the dealer approaches you to hit or stay, you let him know which way you want to go, either verbally or by motion.

  2. Most casinos do not allow you to touch the cards. There are some that do, it all depends on the casino. The issue is with people marking the cards so they can tell what they are.

  3. In a regular blackjack game with multiple decks, the dealer deals the cards face-up and the player is not allowed to touch the cards at all.

But, in single and double-deck blackjack out in Vegas, the cards are dealt face-down and the player has to pick them up to look at them. They are dealt face-down in single and double-deck blackjack to prevent counting of cards. But in that game the player must pick up both of his cards and look at them.

  4. Different casino's have different rules and some have different rules in the same casino. When I have played where the cards are in 4-6 deck shoes, the cards are generally both dealt up and you don't touch them. Many times in one or two deck shoes the cards will both be down and then you do pick up your cards. These games will have different rules, on splitting and doubling down also. Cards dealt down make it much harder to count cards for an advantage, and of course it is harder to count cards in six decks than in one. Also remember the dealer is a machine, whether he hits or sticks depends on what he has. Most always the dealer hits til he has a hard 17 or better is the rule. So to the dealer it makes no difference whether your cards are up or down.

  5. Shoe games and games with continuous shuffle machines deal the cards face up and do not allow players to touch the cards.

Single deck (6 to 5) games and double deck games are making a comeback in many casinos here. In these games, the cards are dealt face down, and the player must pick up the cards and make his play with hand motions. Don't worry though, it's easy to do as long as you can add up your cards correctly.

  6. It depends on the table.  Most shoe games are dealt face up and players do not touch the cards.

Most hand-dealt single and double deck games are dealt face down.  In these games, players can pick up the first two cards they are dealt.  Any subsequent cards are dealt face up and are not touched.

However, I have played a few single deck games that are dealt face up.

  7. In most casinos, the cards are dealt face up. You do not touch the cards.

You may find some casinos tahat deal cards face down, especially in single deck games. So, you would have to touch them to look. But these tend to be pretty rare.

  8. Like others said, 1-deck is delt face down so you have to pick up the cards to look.... but you must use only one hand as using both hands is not allowed (as this could lead to cheating).

Most multi-decks are delt face up so you do not touch the cards.

  9. UNTOUCHED. You are strictly forbidden from touching the cards at the casino in any way. The dealer does everything for you, even splits the cards.

  10. The whole point of 21 is to look at your cards and when you think you aren't going make 21. Get as close to twenty-one as possible.
