Question:

Help with booking connecting flights- timing?

I am looking to fly from Glasgow to Luton and then from Luton to Sofia.

Both flights are with seperate flight companies - Easy Jet and Wizz Air.

The times coming back look okay, but going out, my flight would arrive in Luton at 08.10 am, and my next flight departs for Sofia at 11.35 am. Do you think that this allows enough time to collect luggage & check in again etc?

Does your travel insurance cover you if you end up missing the second flight due to the first one being delayed?

I have never flown like this before - any flight changes I have had have been booked as connecting flights - i.e. with the same airline, so I have not had to bother with collecting baggage etc.

Looking for answers from people who have flown with similar arrangements.

  1. You certainly have an ample time to collect your luggage then check in again to another airline.  3 hours and 20 minutes is more than sufficient even the flight from Glasgow to Luton is delayed  1 1/2 hours.

You travel insurance covers you for hotel and meal expense only but does not guarantee a seat for you on your next connecting flight should you miss the connection.

I hope this clears up your travel woes.

  2. Hi,

Arriving at 8.10 and flying out at 11.35 will give you ample time.

It maybe that when you check in your luggage at Glasgow they will tag it up to be automatically transferred on to the Salou flight from Luton.

It has certainly worked that way for me. Recently I flew Vietnam Airlines then Emirates and finally BA. I checked my luggage at Hanoi and picked it up again at Heathrow

If it does work that way it will save you a bit of time.

Easyjet flights do have a bit of a reputation for delays but in fact it is largely unfounded. When you look at the statistics for flight delays only 1 in 20 is more than an hour late and around 70% arrive within 15 minutes of advertised times.

My experience of low cost carriers is that the earlier in the day the flight the more chance of it being on time.

So Yes your timings are more than reasonable.

However things can go wrong so I suggest you check your insurance policy very carefully all policies are different and impose all sorts of often bizarre restrictions so find out exactly what cover it offers if a easyjet delay prevents you catching your onward flight. If the policy does not make it clear then contact the company and ask.

You arrive at Glasgow Airport and find the plane will be delayed for 3 hours.

Do you still take the plane hoping to get on a later flight at Luton.

Who covers any extra charges made by Wizz.

Can you get a flight later that day or will you need overnight hotel accommodation.

But remember the vast majority of flights arrive within 30 minutes and that is going to give you heaps of time to transfer.

    Good luck and enjoy Salou
