Question:

Help with breakdancing?

Hi I'm trying to start learning how to break dance because it seems so fun and everything :D. So anyways, I take gymnastics so it might help a little I guess, but if it doesn't, oh well.

So can anyone give me an order or something in which people usually learn to breakdance? So what kind of tricks do they learn first and then harder and harder tricks as they progress.

And also, I would like any other tips anyone has :). Thanks

  1. Try checking out this youtube link. They have some pretty good educational vids on breakdance moves. You have to put up with their antics, which aren't a big deal if you have a sense of humor, but if you can get past em, you can learn a lot! Have fun!

  2. whatch MADE on mtv about the beat box boys and some wannbe kid

  3. If you know gymnastics it helps alot since you should have a good sense of balance and probaly basis for several powermoves.

If you want to look like a complete b-boy learn to toprock, six-step (most fundamental part of footwork) and then a freeze or powermove (look up on youtube if you aren't familiar with these names).

Freezes (or poses) are much easier to learn and faster to learn than powermoves. Theres several types like rocksteady freeze, airchair, hollowbacks, handstand poses, elbow poses, ETC. They also have plenty of variation.

If you want to progress with simple to hard powermoves, a easy way to start would be hand glide then turtles then jackhammers or windmill then backspin then to headspin.

Another easy order of powermoves would be swipes then flares, then airflares, then 90's or 2000's but these are usually much more harder.

From other gymnasts if you don't know how to, you could learn how to flare, different forms of flips and do a 90' (or known as 1990).
