Help with breeding fish?

how big should the tank be if I'm breeding 1 female with 3 male?(female is 4 inches, and the rest is 3 inches) is 20 gallon big enough? they are comet fish and also can the female absorb its eggs if it doesn't like the tank its in or if its too small?

  1. Comet fish - you mean comet goldfish?

    If they fit in a 20 gallon they're too young to breed.

    These fish need a large pond (500 gallons minimum) in which to successfully breed, and to be at least 2 years old nearing full grown (over 6"-8" at least).

    To breed them in a tank you'd need at least a 75-100 gallon.

    Also, unless the comets are show quality, breeding them is effectively pointless as thousands die unwanted in petstores as it is.
