  1. you can use pet store mice, and mice that that you breed, to have babbies.

but before anything, you need to know if you can going to sell them as pets, or food.

  2. Maybe you should wait until you know what youre doing.

Try helping out with someone who already breeds mice and get books and stuff.

  3. I'll answer # 10 first:

    NO.

Obviously you're not ready to breed mice.

You would have to sell thousands of them to make any money.  I bet you don't know how bad they smell either, do you?

And... do us all a favor and DO NOT decide to breed dogs because puppies are cute too!

  4. Breeding pet store quality animals is a pretty poor decision. And no reputable breeders make any money from breeding.

You won't make any money unless you really neglect your animals, use the cheapest housing, feed, bedding and never pay for vet care. I.e. breeding mill.

    Bordering on animal abuse.

  5. My younger brother and I bred mice and sold them to a pet store (largely for snake food) when we were kids.  We made a pretty decent amount of pocket money (decent for kids, at least).  I'm sure there are mouse fanciers out there who show mice and whatever and would be totally horrified by this whole thing but for a couple of 12 year olds it was a blast, taught us a lot about animals and never gave us any problems.  Our mice were well-loved, well-cared for and a big part of our lives.  All of my advice is anecdotal and fuzzy memory-wise, if this is something you are serious about you should seek out a group of mouse fanciers in your area or on forums on the web and start talking with them.  They could probably advise you much better than we could!

    1. This was the first link on the Yahoo! Search page when I searched "breeding mice"

    http://www.thefunmouse.com/info/breeding...

    2. We sold them for a quarter a piece to the pet store.

    3. We had two large ones that we kept mixed families in and a couple of small ones (like little Hartz or Habitrail rodent cages) to put the preggers mommies in if necessary, as well as moving the youngsters over once they hit breeding age.  Our mice got along pretty nicely but you do sometimes need to seperate the babies and mum from the others to make sure no one eats the babies.  :( It was actually sometimes easier to move whatever adult mouse was being the "problem child" and bothering mom and babies into the smaller cage and leaving mom and babies with the larger family unit.  This required careful monitoring to make sure everyone was getting along.  Once they have fur they are pretty much out of the woods.

    4. We started with a male and two females.

    5. We never had problems with the males being mean to the babies as far as I remember.  I'm sure it varies by animal, though.  We could usually leave them all together until they hit breeding age.

    6. See above

    7. We never had mean males, most of our males were very sweet.  The females were sometimes mean but not often.  It is mostly a matter of handling them young.

    8. I think if you are breeding mice just for the h**l of it you probably shouldn't try to sell them to the general public.  Mouse fanciers probably would not appreciate it.  But ask around at local pet shops and see if they will buy from you.  My brother and I did sell a few to friends who wanted pets but that was all word of mouth.

    9. We did.

    10. My brother and I found it a lot of fun.  We did this for about five years.  We got some amazing pets out of it (when we had a litter with babies who were especially sweet or a cute color we kept them) and we learned a lot.

We sold them to a pet store, the owner determined whether they were sold as pets or food.  If he saw some that he thought were "pet quality" (I have no idea what his criteria was but think it was largely related to their coats and markings) he paid us $0.50 for them rather than a quarter.

I think you might want to start out having a couple of mice as pets first to see if you can take on the commitment of having a bunch, though.  They require a lot of TLC (cages cleaned regularly, handled, fed and watered regularly) and I would be lying if I said they were not a bit stinky.  ^_- They are very sweet pets, though.  Try getting a couple of males or a couple of females before you move into breeding mice and keep them for a year or six months.  If you feel comfortable you can add a new mouse into the mix and see how it goes.

Good luck! Sorry to any dissaproving mouse fanciers!

  6. well breeding mice isnt that hard realy. u just have to put them in a cage and see if they do anything. you have to take the male out once she has bred or when the babies come cause they will eat them. make sure the mother isnt disturbed when she has her babies or she will eat them. you can sell mice for about a buck. there are lots and some people dont like them so they are pretty cheap. you should get 2 cages one for the male and one for the females.
