Question:

Help with burning cds please?

I've made a playlist and burned it to a blank cd - good quality ones too. Its burned and intialized but when I try and play said cd in anything other than windows media player (which is what I used to burn it) it doesn't recognise the cd as having any music on it nor will it play.

What am I doing wrong?

Thank you x

  1. I think you've probably burnt the CD track in MP3 format - they need to be converted to .CDA or CD audio format to be recognised in a conventional CD player.

It depends what software you're using, Windows & Nero will both ask what format you want your disc recorded in.

  2. You need to get your burning software to burn it as an Audio CD, rather than as .MP3 or .WAV files (or whatever) on a Data CD (CD-ROM).

The latter type of CD will play in a computer, but not in an audio CD player or most DVD players.

Consult the instruction manual or Help facility of whatever burning software you're using, and it should tell you how to burn your music onto CD in Audio CD format.

  3. It looks like you made a data CD with mp3s on it rather than an audio CD. Depending on what program you used, you will be asked at the start what sort of CD you want to burn. You need to specify that you want an Audio CD.

If you're having problems with your CD burning software, I recommend CDBurnerXP which can be downloaded from http://cdburnerxp.se/en/download It's completely free and doesn't have horrible viruses or spyware on it.
