I'm looking at buying a new road bike, i'm interested in doing miles so comfort and speed are vital. I have £600 pounds to spend, i have already looked a little and am interested in the BIANCHI Via Nirone 7 Alu Xenon 10sp. It looks to be good racer, however my knowledge of racing bikes is very limited. Any suggestions or advice very welcome

  1. bianchi are pretty good, but i think you get a lot more form the japanese biles like giant or fuji. much better components and pieces for the price you pay

  2. Hmmm - Comfort AND speed - now there's a conflict!!!!

At the sort of price you're  talking about, you should expect an alu frame with carbon fork. The Bianchi you mention has the advantage of 10sp Xenon, Normally at this level I would be recommending the Giants but your Bianchi has the edge!!!

Speed and comfort can be achieved through correct wheel and tyre choice, if you want good comfort then find a good 25c tyre, If you want speed as well - then find a good rolling tyre and inflate it to 90psi minimum. I won't give recommendations to 25c as I don't use them (I use 23c - at least I'm honest!)

My advice: Get the Bianchi and ask around for tyre recommendations.

  3. Would recommend you go along to a few local road races and at the finish have a look at some of the bikes being raced. Also your local bike shop should be able to let you take a bike out to get the feel of it. Bianchi is good, also Orbea Fleche or Giant SCR 1.5, also reasonable.
