Help with caramel sauce?

The recipe for caramel sauce says to use 12 soft caramels (such as Pascall Columbines) and

80ml (1/3 cup) pouring cream.

It says to use a small saucepan, medium heat and wait until caramels melt. I was just wondering if I could use the microwave instead? If anyone has an opinion please tell me!

  2. I would say yeah go for it. You could try adding half the cream to the caramels to start with and heat, then add remaining at the end and even cut the caramels in half so that they melt a little quicker.

    Heat in about 30 second bursts.
